Strong & Steady Day Program
Strong & Steady is an evidence-based falls prevention and reconditioning program aimed at restoring confidence, maximising independence and reducing the likelihood of falls in older adults.
Every year, 1 in 3 people aged 65 years and over will have a fall. Falls are the most common cause of injury amongst the elderly population and can have long-lasting effects on a person’s quality of life. There is strong evidence to support the role of exercise in preventing falls from occurring and aiding recovery. An appropriately programed exercise intervention can improve muscular strength, balance, coordination, walking speed and gait mechanics, as well as enhancing psychological factors such as confidence and mental ability.
The Strong & Steady program has been developed by allied health staff and is overseen by a Rehabilitation Physician. It is a comprehensive, goal-directed, multi-disciplinary program consisting of both practical and theory sessions. Patients will have access to Physiotherapists, Exercise Physiologists, Occupational Therapists, Dieticians, Social Workers and Psychologists. Strong & Steady runs over 4 weeks, with patients required to attend a 3 hour program, 2 days per week.
