Ramsay joins Climate Leaders Coalition to fight climate change

Oct 21, 2021

Ramsay Health Care is cementing its commitment to tackle climate change by uniting with leading Australian companies to release a roadmap to achieve significant emissions reductions by 2030.

The roadmap has been released by the Climate Leaders Coalition (CLC), a group of 33 leading Australian companies and their CEOs, who are committed to the ambitions of the Paris Agreement.

Ramsay Health Care Australia CEO, Carmel Monaghan, said endorsing the CLC Roadmap to 2030 was part of Ramsay’s commitment to sustainability, by making a meaningful and positive difference in the world.

“The health impacts of climate change are real. Together, businesses across Australia can do a lot to reduce our impact and make the world a better place,” Ms Monaghan said.

“Healthcare providers should not only prepare for the health emergency that will stem from climate change, we must also play a leading role in substantially reducing our own significant use of resources,” she said.

CLC companies cover a range of sectors and represent more than $305 billion in revenue, while employing more than 632,000 people. The member companies account for the equivalent of 22% of Australia’s current total greenhouse gas emissions.

The CLC Roadmap to 2030 was released ahead of the United Nations climate change conference in Glasgow. It provides a clear and realistic pathway for business in Australia to adapt to the changing world of the 2020s and to deliver a prosperous future for themselves, their communities and for the country as a whole.

Target areas outlined in the CLC Roadmap to 2030 include installing renewable energy, responsible supply chains, mapping transition pathways for regional Australia, and offsetting emissions.

Ramsay Health Care is already undertaking a range of sustainability initiatives as part of its Ramsay Cares strategy which aims to foster healthier people, stronger communities and a thriving planet. The organisation has embarked on an ambitious solar power roll out at hospital sites across the country, as well as eliminating single-use plastic water bottles and recycling medical waste.
